AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will address a public rally in support of party candidate Nilesh Parvekar on October 8 here, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Manikrao Thakre said on Sunday.

Addressing party workers here, Mr. Thakre asked them to work for the victory of the Congress candidate and make Mr. Rahul’s tour a grand affair.

Later in an informal chat with media persons, Mr. Thakre said the Congress-led Democratic Front would retain power in Maharashtra after the October 13 Assembly polls.

He refused to comment on the probable candidate for the post of Chief Minister’s post, saying party president Sonia Gandhi will decide that after election results are out.

The MPCC president expressed confidence that Congress will win all the seven assembly seats in Yavatmal, his home district.

Asked about rebels in the party, he said, “We have given opportunity to all of them to step back and if they failed to do so within 2-3 days, disciplinary action would be taken against them.”
