Protests continue for the 32nd day in Kashmir

August 10, 2016 04:36 am | Updated September 20, 2016 12:37 pm IST - Srinagar:

Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Kashmir, the security forces continued to battle stone-throwing protesters amid curfew and restrictions in parts of the Valley on the 32nd day of civil unrest in the State on Tuesday.

A Srinagar-based police spokesman said a mob of 3,000 people assembled near the Lalpora Jamia Masjid in Kupwara district and hurled stones, adding that security forces deployed were attacked in Bandipora’s Ajas and Pulwama’s Awatipora areas. “Some militants were spotted in the mob in Kupwara. Two persons were injured when the mob was chased.”

However, eyewitnesses said the protesters waved a Pakistani flag and raised anti-India slogans when the clash broke out. Just hours after the Prime Minister’s speech was aired on news channels, residents of Srinagar’s Batamaloo clashed with security forces.
