A protest march against the proposed Jaitapur nuclear power plant in Maharashtra’s Konkan region has been organised here tomorrow by environmentalists and the Leftist trade unions in the wake of nuclear crisis in Japan.
The march will start from Lower Parel station in the evening and will continue till Ambedkar Maidan.
“The Centre and the State government are still not awake after repeated blasts in Japan’s nuclear plants causing risk of radiation. The Government is forcing the project under pressure from multi-national companies and keeping all the rules and regulations aside,” CPI leader Prakash Reddy said in a release today.
The protest march would demand to stop the plant considering the risk from the nuclear radiation. The Konkan Vinashkari Prakalp Virodhi Samiti, the Konkan Bachao Samiti and a coalition of trade unions, anti-nuclear groups and democratic rights activists are supporting the march.
