Primary teachers for Manipur high schools

April 19, 2011 11:14 pm | Updated 11:14 pm IST - IMPHAL:

Parents and educationists are concerned over posting of several primary school teachers in junior high schools, high schools and higher secondary schools in the four valley districts of Manipur. Students have complained that these teachers could not handle any subject.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, who is in charge of Education, has said the government will soon appoint an additional 1,300 primary and 600 graduate teachers. The selection test for teachers will be done away with and appointments made on the basis of the candidates' marks in the matriculation and graduate examinations.

Reports say the government is paying primary teachers, Hindi matriculates and Hindi graduates Rs. 7,600 a month to teach students in primary schools. They have been attending school from April 11. Some students and parents say these teachers do not know anything about science and mathematics.
