A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered near a railway track in Assam’s Udalguri district on Thursday, police sources said.

Patrolling security forces spotted the IED kept in a steel container at Dindonpar area under Khairabari police station.

Bomb disposal experts from the army defused the bomb, the sources said.

Security in the district has been further beefed up.

Security throughout the state has been intensified in the run-up to the Independence Day following the call given by militant outfits to boycott the celebrations and intelligence reports of possible subversive activities by the outfits.
