A policeman and a civilian were killed in separate attacks by gunmen in the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday.

The policeman was killed when two gunmen attacked National Conference leader Ghulam Mohiddin Mir in Monghama village, Pulwama district, around 30 km south of Srinagar.

Mr. Mir was attending a wedding when the gunmen opened fire at his security guard, identified as Shabir Ahmad, who received minor injuries.

However, the bullets hit another policeman Riyaz Ahmad Ganai, who was also attending the wedding. He later died of injuries in the hospital, the police said.

Militants reportedly fled with the service rifle of one of the injured policemen.

In another incident, gunmen shot dead a youth, identified as Liyaqat Ali of Wader, Handwara, in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
