HC stays suspension of Patna official

Municipal commissioner had cracked down on builders

December 15, 2014 11:44 pm | Updated 11:44 pm IST - Patna:

The Patna High Court on Monday stayed the suspension of Patna Municipal Commissioner Kuldip Narayan and has asked for all the relevant documents on Tuesday. The State government had, on Friday, suspended the PMC commissioner for laxity in discharge of duties but the government’s move had triggered a major row in Bihar’s power corridors.

Expressing “dismay”, a Division Bench comprising Justices V.N. Sinha and Prabhat Kumar Jha asked the State government to submit papers related to the proceedings before the court on Tuesday.

The government’s move appears to be “in the teeth of the High Court order given on July 8, 2013, not to transfer the PMC commissioner without its consent,” the court said.
