As the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday discussed their strategy to take up various issues during the first session of the 15 Odisha Legislative Assembly beginning on Thursday, legislators of the ruling Biju Janata Dal held a meeting and discussed ways to counter the opposition on various issues.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, however, told presspersons after the meeting of his party legislators that they would discuss all issues the Opposition parties will take up.
According to sources, both opposition parties decided to highlight the government’s alleged failure in arresting those involved in the multi-crore mining scam and the chit fund scam.
They were also likely to highlight the issues relating to the faulty evaluation of the answer sheets of a large number of students who had appeared in the Plus Two final examinations this year.
Due to faulty evaluation of the answer sheets, the Council of High Secondary Education started re-checking and re-addition exercise from June 9 after thousands of students applied for it
The first day of the session was scheduled to be addressed by Governor S.C. Jamir.
The session, to be held in two phases, will have 25 sitting days.
Budget on June 27While the election of the Deputy Speaker was scheduled to be held on June 16, the budget will be placed in the Assembly by new Finance Minister Pradip Kumar Amat on June 27. The Appropriation Bill was scheduled to be passed on July 28.
Adequate security arrangements had been made in and around the Assembly to prevent any untoward incident during the session.
Senior police officials reviewed the security arrangements and deployment of security personnel at vantage points on Wednesday.
