Panel summons 2 private doctors

After examining all the government doctors who had treated the Pipili gang rape victim of 2012, the Justice P K Mohanty Commission of Enquiry on Saturday issued summon

notices to two private doctors to depose before the Commission on March 21.

Dr. A K Rath and Dr. P C Mohanty, who had separately treated the victim on two different occasions, have been asked to appear before the Commission for examination-in-chief and face cross examinations.

While the victim was for the first time discharged from the SCB Medical College and Hospital in December 2011, she was taken to a private hospital where Dr. Rath treated her for about two weeks. Similarly, when the victim was discharged from the Cuttack teaching hospital for the second time in January 2012, she was treated for a brief period at a private hospital here under the supervision of Dr. Mohanty.

As it became very imperative for the Commission to examine all angles leading to the alleged neglect in treatment to the victim for which she died after slipping into coma for more than six months, the Commission felt it necessary to summon the private doctors, said advocate Pravat
