Maintaining that prompt action was taken in the wake of the Badaun gang rape and murder, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday accused the media of projecting the State’s law-and-order situation in an unfair light. Talking to presspersons after a Cabinet meeting here, Mr. Yadav charged the media with keeping undue focus on crime in his State while ignoring similar recent incidents in other States such as Madhya Pradesh.
“All action taken”
Slamming the Opposition parties for seeking to tarnish the image of the Samajwadi Party government, the Chief Minister pointed out that all possible action had been taken, including arresting the accused and seeking a CBI investigation. In fact, the removal of Anil Kumar Gupta from the post of Principal Secretary (Home) was reportedly due to the delay in sending the plea for the CBI investigation to the Centre.
Director-General of Police Anand Lal Banerjee visited the Katra Saadatganj village and met the family members of the two minors who were gang-raped and killed on the intervening night of May 27 and 28.
The kin of the deceased too made a request for a CBI inquiry.
