One person was killed and two others injured in a bomb blast near Krishnai police station in lower Assams Goalpara district around 7.55 am on Wednesday.
Assam Home Commissioner G. D. Tripathi told The Hindu that bomb kept under a bench in a tea stall went off injuring its owner Mujibur Rahman (58) and his two sons seriously.
Later Rahman succumbed to his injuries.
Mr. Tripathi said the insurgent United Liberation Front of Asom (Indepemdent) was suspected to have planted the bomb.
The Home Commissioner said that following the blast, security forces across the state had been alerted.
The state government also asked Goalpara Deputy Commissioner to provide Rs 30,000 for funeral and medical expenses immediately and sanction of ex gratia of Rs 8 lakhs (Rs 5 lakh from state govt. and Rs 3 lakh from central govt.), provide free treatment of the injured and Rajiv Gandhi Sangsthapan yojana proposal for the widow of the blast victim.
