The aspects involved in making the right choice of course were outlined to students of Class XI at a session on “Art of choosing career” conducted recently by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Puducherry State Council.
It was aimed at helping students of government and private higher secondary schools and providing an insight into personal optimisation of every student, a release said.
Director of School Education S. Sundaravadivelu, in his inaugural address, said that 20 to 30 years ago, the choice of study before students was limited. Now, several new courses are available.
On how children select a course, he said they either go by choices made by their parents or friends. Most often, the choices are not according to the interest of the children, Mr. Sundaravadivelu said.
He put forward the need for self-examination and insisted that a goal in life be selected according to the capabilities and potential of the real person within us. “Once the goal is set, you should concentrate on it with proper planning and time management,” he told students.
Chairman of the CII, Puducherry, T. Rajarajan said that in most schools, the options available are biology or computer science and the problem was that students were given no time to decide about making a choice.
Col. D.P. Singh, Commandant of National Cadet Corps Group Headquarters, spoke about career prospects in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
Sub-Collector Vijaykumar Bidhuri, Former United Nations Consultant Raghu Nandan, convener of Education Panel of the CII, Puducherry, Meenakshi Kumar and Correspondent of St. Patrick Higher Secondary School S. Regis also spoke, the release said.
