Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday expressed his disappointment over the closure of the Pathribal fake encounter case by the Army.
"Extremely disappointed with the decision of the army reg Pathribal. Will ask the Law Dept & Advocate General to examine,” Mr. Abdullah tweeted. “A matter as serious as Pathribal can't be closed or wished away like this more so with the findings of the CBI so self-evident.”
Sources said that immediately after learning about the closure of the Pathribal case by the Army Court of Inquiry, Mr. Abdullah left Srinagar for Jammu where a Cabinet committee is also scheduled today. “CM is likely to discuss the whole issue with Chief Secretary Iqbal Khanday and Law Secretary Mohammad Ashraf Mir besides the state government’s counsel in Supreme Court Gaurav Pachnanda,” said an official source.
Advocate-General Mohammad Ishaq Qadri told The Hindu that the state government would “explore all available options to ensure that justice is not denied in the Pathribal case, so assiduously investigated by the CBI”. He, however, said that Chief Minister or any other government official did not discuss this issue with him till Mr. Abdullah’s departure for Jammu in the forenoon”.
