Due to excessive rain over last 72 hours, the situation in certain districts are grim but “not out of control” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday.
“I did a monitoring meeting today; we are carefully observing the developments and sent relief to affected areas especially tents and blankets,” Ms. Banerjee before leaving for one-day trip to Delhi.
She will attend the swearing in ceremony of Ram Nath Kovind and expected to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Heavy rain has submerged many parts of the State but it is “yet to be a flood situation,” the Chief Minister said. “There is water in certain low lying areas of Purulia, West Medinipur, Hooghly and Birbhum district,” she said.
Labhpur in Birbhum, Arambagh in Hooghly, Ghatal in West Medinipur are some of the severely affected districts and many are displaced.
Without naming any organisation the Chief Minister said that “They have released water and it has created the situation.” Usually, the thermal power producing company Damodar Valley Corporation releases water during monsoon.
