Disgruntled Congress Minister Narayan Rane’s options shrank on Saturday with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying there was “no possibility” of his joining the party.

“There is no proposal before us of Mr. Rane joining our party. And there is no possibility of his joining our party,” senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse. He was responding to growing speculation in political circles that Mr. Rane would leave the Congress for the BJP.

Earlier this week, Mr. Rane indicated an open rebellion, saying, “I will announce my decision in the next two or three days. It is no secret that I am unhappy. I have written to the Congress leadership after the poll results giving my analysis on the reasons.”

Mr. Rane had resigned as Industries Minister after the Congress’s poll debacle and his own son’s defeat in the Lok Sabha polls. .
