Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday gave an assurance in the State Assembly that all vacant posts of teachers in the schools situated in the rural areas would be filled up shortly, but said that the new faculties of different subjects would not be opened in the middle of the academic session.
Intervening during Education Minister Bhanwarlal Meghwal's reply to supplementary questions during the Question Hour, Mr. Gehlot said the State Government would not open any new school until the teachers were appointed in full strength to the existing schools.
Mr. Gehlot pointed out that the previous BJP regime too could not appoint teachers in all schools in villages across the State despite its best efforts. He said the rationalisation of teachers' posts would be taken up with the cooperation of all wings of the Education Department.
He said there was no justification for opening new faculties of subjects such as science and commerce in the schools while the academic session was in progress. “Our priority should be the appointment of teachers in the schools which have large numbers of vacancies.” Education Minister Mr. Meghwal, replying to a written question, said one of the reasons for not opening new faculties was the ongoing process of appointment of teachers. He said both the science and commerce faculties would be opened in two to three schools in each of the 200 Assembly constituencies in the State in due course.
Mr. Meghwal said the State had announced opening of science and commerce faculties in 500 schools during 2009-10 and the decision had been implemented in 144 higher secondary schools. The new faculties could not be opened when the academic session was in progress, he said.
