No anti-national slogans at Patna rally, says PFI

Published - July 18, 2016 02:29 am IST - Patna:

A day after the Patna police arrested Mohammed Taufique Hussain of the Popular Front of India (PFI) for raising anti-national slogans during a procession in the city on Friday, the PFI on Sunday said no anti-national slogans were shouted during the procession.

On Friday, the PFI had taken out a procession in Patna in support of controversial televangelist Zakir Naik and AIMIM leader Assauddin Owaisi.

“This rally was one of the protest progarmmes held by the organizations in different parts of country against targeting Mr. Naik and Mr. Owaisi which were part of communal fascist agenda to silence them. We presume that some vicious elements have fabricated the original video of the event and misused a section of the media to tarnish the image of the Muslim community and Popular Front of India”, said the PFI press statement.

Earlier on Saturday, when the video of the procession in which some anti-national slogans were allegedly raised went viral, the State Director General of Police, P.K. Thakur asked the Patna zone Inspector General of Police, Nayyer Husnain Khan to investigate the charges.

The police had arrested one Mohammed Taufique Hussain, said to be PFI secretary, on the charge of raising anti-national slogan during the procession.
