Nitish orders probe into ragging death

January 28, 2011 12:28 am | Updated 12:28 am IST - Patna:

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday ordered a probe into the alleged suicide by a first-year student of the Patna Medical College and Hospital after ragging.

According to the police, Sunny Kumar (17) of Chhapra (Saran) district was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a private lodge in Sultanganj on Wednesday night. Officials said no suicide note was retrieved.

The boy's relatives and friends, however, alleged that constant ragging by seniors drove him to his death.

The Chief Minister directed Senior Superintendent of Police Bacchu Singh Meena and Patna District Magistrate Jitendra Sinha to conduct a joint probe.
