Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, the National Human Rights Commission on Thursday issued a notice to the Chhattisgarh government over the deaths of four babies at a government-run hospital in Raipur allegedly due to the oxygen supply getting cut on Sunday night.

The NHRC issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, asking for a detailed report within four weeks. According to reports, the oxygen supply was disrupted, and the police have arrested the operator of the oxygen plant. The operator was also found to be drunk at work. This was the second such case this month, after a disruption in oxygen on August 10 allegedly caused the deaths of children at Gorakhpur’s Baba Raghav Das Medical College. While 23 children died that night, it is yet to be ascertained whether the oxygen supply being cut caused the deaths.
