Hydro-power producer NHPC, which plans to diversify into thermal energy generation, has assigned NTPC to prepare a detailed report of 1,320 MW coal-based plant at Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh.

“We have assigned the job of preparing the detailed project report (DPR) to NTPC for the 2x660 MW super-critical thermal power plant at Khandwa (MP),” NHPC Chairman and Managing Director S K Garg said on the sidelines of the Economic Editors conference here today.

NHPC wants to complete the project in 4 years after seeking the Cabinet’s approval, he added.

NTPC is the largest state-run power producer in the country.
