Dignity Foundation, an NGO working for the welfare of senior citizens will open its centre and helpline at Mangor Hill, Vasco in south Goa on Tuesday.

“We have been providing an enriching and unique set of opportunities to the 50+ to lead a more dignified, secure, joyful and fulfilling life during their twilight years,” said Sheilu Sreenivasan, founder and president of Dignity Foundation.

"There are around two lakh senior citizens in Goa and a few old-age homes have sprung up in the State over the last few years. However, there are very limited avenues for senior citizens to engage themselves in meaningful activities and maintain a social support network. As mitigation increases, more and more senior citizens are left to live by themselves and they have also become easy targets for crime,” she said.

Dignity Foundation has been running several programmes for senior citizens across various cities, including Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata and Ahmedabad.

The Dignity helpline number in Goa is 2530303.
