New rescue app for Kedarnath pilgrims

Kedarnath yatra rescue Android App, which, according to the Rudraprayag District Magistrate Raghav Langer, is the “first online and offline integrated smart phone application” has now been launched.

The App can be used for sending “an emergency SMS” to the district administration during a disaster to inform the authorities about the location of the user for rescue and evacuation purposes.

Working towards building a rescue application was necessitated after the June 2013 deluge where thousands of pilgrims lost their lives in Kedarnath Valley due to lack of contact with the administration.

“The App can be installed by the locals, pilgrims and tourists in their smart phones free of cost from Google Play Store or Rudraprayag district official website, after which they get access to various landmarks and important resources like location of helipads, evacuation routes, important public buildings, medical relief posts, Police chowkis, and important contact numbers,” an official release from the Rudraprayag Disaster Management Department said.

‘Sri Kedar Rescue Demo Android App’ was launched, last year, and the final advanced version has now been launched.

The successful launch of the application, specific to Kedarnath, might now be used for the entire Char Dham yatra. A proposal for this would be sent to the Uttarakhand government by the District Disaster Management Authority, Rudraprayag.
