: The militant outfit National Democratic Front of Boroland (Ranjan Daimary), currently engaged in suspension of operation (SoO) agreement with the Centre and the Assam government, on Friday threatened to pull out from the ongoing peace process if the outfit chief D.R. Nabla alias Ranjan Daimary and other leaders and cadres were not released from jail by November 30.
“The NDFB has decided to pull out of the peace process unless the government proves its seriousness to expedite the peace process by releasing D. R. Nabla, other leaders and cadres who have been languishing in jail for years by November 30,” stated the outfit’s information and publicity secretary B. Naijab in press statement.
Mr Naijab stated that although the recent Lok Sabha elections and the formation of a new government at the Centre slowed down the pace of peace process, the NDFB submitted its memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on September 27 through the Centre’s interlocutor P.C. Haldar to start a political dialogue.
However, the arrest of Mr Daimary two days after the submission of the memorandum was “not only surprising but also unprecedented, discriminatory and insulting”.
The TADA court here sent Mr Daimary to jail on September 29 after rejecting his plea for extension of interim bail in cases pending against him when the State Government reportedly informed the court that some of its cadres were still involved in subversive activities and informed the court about five such cases.
The militant leader was arrested in 13 cases after he was handed over by Bangladesh to India on May 1, 2010.
