President of Goa unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Jose Philip D’Souza on Saturday expressed doubt if unattached MLA Atanasio Monserrate was being framed in the minor rape case.

Responding to a question during his press conference at the NCP office in Panaji, Mr. D’Souza, said, “I am saying… could be. Because, he is very powerful politician and would have lot of nuisance value or clout as far as the ruling BJP in the coming Assembly elections.”

Having said that, Mr. D’Souza admitted that the charge of rape and trafficking of a minor are very serious and demanded that the government must direct police to investugate the case fairly so that victim and the accused get justice.

This case must not be allowed to be used as a poll plank by other parties in the March 2017 Assembly elections, Mr. D’Souza said.
