A Naxal ‘commander’ active in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district has surrendered to the police, officials said on Saturday.

The Maoist, identified as Ravi alias Ganeshu, was a Naxal ‘commander’ and member of the district’s Area Committee, R.K. Vij, Inspector General of Police (Durg range), said.

Ravi, who gave himself up in the IG office on Friday, came in contact with Naxals in 2004 and joined the movement, he said.

He told the police that although the Naxal leaders are fighting in the name of people of Chhattisgarh, all important decision are taken by Maoists in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, the IG said.

Ravi decided to surrender after being getting disillusioned with the Naxal leadership, Mr. Vij said.

He will be rehabilitated as per the Government policies, the police officer added.
