Prime Ministerial candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party Narendra Modi would address a public rally in Agartala on February 22 to kick off his campaign in northeast India. Tripura state committee of the party informed that the central campaign office has instructed the party to initiate preparations to ensure huge crowd at the rally.

"We have got the confirmation from Delhi. Modi ji is coming on February 22", state BJP president Sudhindra Dasgupta told The Hindu on Saturday.

He said Swami Vivekananda stadium will be venue of the meeting and they are expecting at least one lakh people will attend the meeting. The party is activating all committees at district and divisional level to coordinate preparations for the rally.

BJP sources said party's national vice president S.S. Ahluwalia is arriving on February 11 to oversee preparations. Mr Ahluwalia also heads party's campaign subcommittee for northeast India.

State leaders reportedly made a special request to Narendra Modi to visit Tripura during party's national council meeting recently held in New Delhi. He will leave Tripura soon after the rally.

Though BJP does not carry much weight in Tripura, the only Left Front ruled state in India, the rally is likely to attract huge audience owing to current political stature of Mr. Modi BJP's vote share in the State is around 2 percent.
