Some Naga tribal miscreants torched a truck near Taphou in Senapati district on Saturday evening while it was on its way to Dimapur to fetch essential commodities. With this incident, the number of trucks torched by the miscreants, during the blockade against Manipur, has gone up to 15.
The miscreants are targeting the vehicles despite CRPF personnel escorting the trucks on the two highways.
The tribals had first imposed a 68-day blockade against Manipur which was suspended on June 18 following the intervention of the Prime Minister. It was re-imposed for 20 days from August 4 and further extended by 25 days.
Freedom fighter remembered
Manipur remembered, on Sunday, Haiphou Jadongang, a young freedom fighter who had revolted against the British.
It was on this day, 89 years ago, that he was hanged to death by the British on the fabricated charge of having killed three Manipuri traders.
Jadonang (26) revolted against the collection of house tax and forced labour. He was arrested from the Cachar district of Assam, and hanged on the bank of Nambul river near the Central Jail, Imphal on August 29, 1931.
