Madhya Pradesh Government on Saturday decided to hike the retirement age for employees in the private sector in the State to 60 from the present 58.
This was decided at a review meeting of the State Labour Department under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The meeting, attended among others by Labour Minister, Antar Singh Arya, and Chief Secretary, Anthony de Sa, also decided to allow deployment of women in night shifts in the textile and information technology units provided adequate security arrangements were made by the employers.
The meeting also informed that a state-of-the-art residential education city will be constructed exclusively for labourers’ children at Kanha Saiyya village near Bhopal in accordance with the Chief Minister’s announcement at a Mazdoor Mahapanchayat. A 36-acre plot has been identified, members were told.
Mr. Chouhan said that comprehensive discussions have been held on the outlines of this school. The ambitious scheme for raising labourers’ children as doctors, engineers etc. should be completed within time-limit, he stressed.
He also directed the officials to implement his announcement to construct shelter houses in urban areas for artisans/craftspersons and to ensure 100 per cent registration of workers. “Labour laws should be simplified and made investor-friendly'', he said.
