Congress wrests one seat from BJP in MP

The ruling party manages to win the other two

In an embarrassment to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Congress wrested one Assembly seat from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the by-elections for which counting was held on Monday.

The bypolls were conducted for three Assembly constituencies of Agar, Vijayaraghavgarh and Bahoriband. The BJP managed to win Agar and Vijayaraghavgarh, but lost the Bahoriband seat. Sourabh Singh won from Bahoriband with a margin of 7,977 votes.

In Vijayaraghavgarh, the BJP wrested the seat from the Congress with its candidate, Sanjay Pathak, winning by a margin of 53,397 votes over the Congress’ Brajendra Mishra.

In Agar, the BJP retained the seat with its candidate Gopal Parmar defeating Rajkumar Gore of the Congress by a margin of 27,102 votes.
