Mother sells newborn for Rs. 7,000

A mother of five allegedly sold her newborn daughter for Rs. 7,000 to a childless woman due to poverty at Patliputra Medical College (PMCH) here, official said on Tuesday.

Dulali Devi (40), gave birth to twins, a son and a daughter, in gynaecology ward of PMCH on Sunday evening, a PMCH official said.

Child Welfare Committee chairperson Nita Sinha said Dulali on Monday “sold” her new-born daughter to childless woman Shahida Khatoon for Rs. 7,000.

However, on intervention of the CWC, the infant was reunited with the mother within 24 hours. - PTI
