Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate the State Government’s high-profile Global Investors Summit in Indore on October 9.

There was speculation that Mr. Modi would probably not attend the summit as the State Government had a few days ago announced that Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Industries Kalraj Mishra would be the chief guest at the meet.

The issue has now got clarified with the Chief Minister announcing at a press conference in Delhi that Mr. Modi has given his consent to inaugurate the global summit being held on October 9 and 10 and that Mr. Mishra would inaugurate a conference on micro, small and medium enterprises being held alongside on October 8.

Seven countries are taking part in the summit as partner States – Australia, Canada, Mexico, Czech Republic, South Africa and Quebec. Apart from these, delegates from 13 other countries are also expected to participate in the summit.

Mr. Chouhan also called on the Union Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley and apprised him of the various issues related to Finance and Defence Ministry that are pending with the Centre for approval.

He particularly sought early release of Central assistance to the tune of Rs. 2,150 crore to mitigate the loss caused by hailstorms and unseasonal rain during January to March 2014 in almost the entire Madhya Pradesh. He urged the Minister to release Rs. 667.21 crore as per the recommendation of Vaidyanathan Committee with regards to short-term co-operative credit .

Mr. Chouhan also drew attention to the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission which are to be finalised very soon.

He requested the Finance Minister to increase the State share of Central taxes to 50 per cent and allow flexibility in fiscal deficit and borrowing up to 5 per cent of GSDP. He also wanted higher share of grant to Madhya Pradesh on account of its geographical, and demographic peculiarities.

Further, he drew attention to the pending proposal for a national memorial for Baba Saheb Ambedkar at his birth place of Mhow.
