Police in Uttar Pradesh say a collision between a minibus and a speeding truck has killed at least 12 people.

Police officer R.P. Singh says all the casualties on Sunday were on board the minibus.

Police arrested the truck driver as he tried to flee the crash site on a highway near Amroha, a town 300 kilometers (185 miles) southwest of Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh state capital. The bus driver died.

Mr. Singh says four people are hospitalized, three of them with serious injuries.

India has the world’s deadliest roads, with more than 110,000 people killed annually and most accidents blamed on reckless driving, poor road maintenance or aging vehicles.
