Mild tremors felt in parts of Gujarat

A medium intensity earthquake of 4.7 magnitude jolted parts of Gujarat on Sunday morning. According to Institute of Seismological Research, Gandhinagar, a 4.7-intensity earthquake was recorded at 9:24 a.m. with its epicenter at 24km north-northwest of Surat.

An aftershock of 2.3 intensity was also felt at 11:23 a.m. Its epicenter was located 25 km east-southeast of Bhavnagar.

The impact of the first shock was felt in areas as far as 50 km from the epicenter.

A 30-year-old-man reportedly jumped off from the second floor of a building in Palitana in Bhavnagar district. He received injuries and has been admitted to a hospital. There was no report of any damage to life or properpty in the State.

Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has asked the Relief Commissioner to collect reports from the affected districts.
