Meghalaya Governor Krishan Kant Paul was been given additional charge of Manipur and Mizoram on Thursday after President Pranab Mukherjee accepted the resignation of V.K. Duggal, who was Governor of the two States.

Mr. Duggal, former Union Home Secretary and Army Captain, was the ninth Governor to resign after the National Democratic Alliance came to power in May. He took over as Governor of Manipur late last year and was given additional charge of Manipur on August 8 after incumbent Kamla Beniwal was sacked. Mr. Duggal too put in his papers twenty days later.

He continued in the interim, during which he coordinated efforts of the Manipur and the Centre to keep highways open during the economic blockade by Naga groups. Mr. Paul, former Delhi Police Commissioner, would hold charge of the two States until regular arrangements were made, said a release from the President’s secretariat. His wife Omita Paul is secretary to Mr. Mukherjee.
