An auxiliary constable of Chhattisgarh police, who was abducted by the Maoists on August 31, was found dead in Sukma district of restive Bastar region on Saturday.
Auxiliary constable Pila Das, who was posted in Pollampalli police station of Sukma, was abducted from Gorgonda village when he was returning to his base camp from Dornapal town in a passenger vehicle.
His body was found hardly few meters away from Pollampalli village market on Saturday morning.
A resident of Kankerlanka village of Sukma, Pila Das had joined the ant-Maoist militia Salwa Judum as a Special Police Officer (SPO) in 2006 and was active in anti-Maoist operations in Bastar.
He was recruited as an auxiliary constable in 2011 when the Supreme Court banned Salwa Judum and the recruitment of the SPOs.
On September 2, hundreds of residents of Kankerlanka village and some relatives of Pila Das had entered Sukma forests to appeal to the Maoists to release him, however, they were returned by the ultras without any assurance.
Pila Das became the fifth cop to have been abducted and killed by the Maoists in last two months. The ultras had abducted and killed four auxiliary constables in Bijapur district of Bastar in July.
