Maoist on Wednesday gunned down a trader in Orissa’s Koraput district, police said.

The trader identified as 45-year-old Mandia Sahu Loknath was sitting outside his residence at Nimlabadi area, about 100 km from here, in the district when two ultras shot at him from close range, they said.

Though the exact reason behind the killing was yet to be ascertained, the trader was believed to have been targeted as he had opposed activities of Maoist-backed Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh (CMAS) in several areas of the district, sources said.

A combing operation has been launched to nab the rebels and security forces intensified patrolling in the area, police said.
