A man was arrested on the charge of his attempt to bury alive his nine-year-old daughter at Putia in Sipahijala district of Tripura, police said on Saturday.
Abul Hussain was arrested after forcibly trying to bury his daughter Rukshena in a pit in the backyard of his residence. Residents rescued the girl on Friday after a neighbour raised an alarm, Uttam Bhaumick, SP (Control), said.
The incident took place when her mother was not at home.
The girl was admitted to a hospital where her condition is stated to be serious.
