: A high-level meeting was convened on Saturday to discuss the two proposed elevated Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) corridor projects.
The projects projects would come up between Anand Vihar Terminal to Peeragrahi (29-km East-West corridor) and Wazirabad to IGI Airport (24km North-South corridor).
The meeting was attended by Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung, officials from the Transport Department and traffic planning body Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning & Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC).
“A presentation was made on both the projects by the officials of the Public Works Department (PWD). Views will now be sought by UTTIPEC from the Delhi Police and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA),” said a senior government official.
In his budgetary speech, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had proposed the construction of the two elevated BRT corridors.
The Delhi government has pledged a planned outlay of Rs. 2,208 crore, which is 11 per cent of the total plan outlay for the new fiscal, exclusively for the enhancement of road infrastructure.
Four additional stretches of elevated corridors, one underground tunnel from NH-24 bypass to Lodhi Road and the corridor improvement of the road from Khajuri Khas to the Bhopura border, Mr. Sisodia said, will also be taken up in 2016-17.
The government was, the Deputy Chief Minister added, considering re-designing of roads to tackle the problem of traffic congestion and make them friendlier for pedestrians and cyclists.
