October 03, 2011 12:44 am | Updated 12:44 am IST - BETUL:

A leopard was killed when it fell into an open well at an agriculture field in the forest village, Bakud, under Sarni forest range near here, officials said on Sunday.

The leopard, nearly four years old, was found dead on Saturday, in the well with no protective walls around it, they said. The field belongs to a farmer, Pirsu Yadav, who claimed that the big cat tried to attack him when he was sleeping in his hut. However, it eventually fled the spot.

Yadav said he found the leopard dead inside the well in the morning and informed the forest and police officials about it. Later, the forest officials pulled out the animal and upon noticing wounds on its body sent it for post-mortem to find out if villagers had attacked it.
