Lashker Militant killed, Jawan injured in an encounter in Poonch

A suspected militant of the Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) was killed and a jawan injured in a gunbattle in Poonch border district this morning, police said here today.

On specific information about the presence of a group of 3-4 militants, Rastriya Rifles (RR) troops and Police launched a search and cordon operation in Bhatti-Dar area of Mendhar tehsil early this morning, SSP, Poonch, Manmohan Singh told PTI.

During search operation, joint operation team came under heavy firing from militants, prompting troops to fire back resulting in a fierce gunbattle, he added.

The injured jawan has been hospitalised. The body of the militant is yet to be recovered.

Troops also launched a cordon and search operation to track down a group of militants in Alal forest belt of Thanamandi teshil in Rajouri district, police said.
