After declaring the “return” of nine rebel MLA’s to the Rashtriya Janata Dal fold, party chief Lalu Prasad vented his ire on the Legislative Assembly Speaker who recognised the 13 legislators who broke away as a separate bloc.
At a meeting with Governor D.Y. Patil, Mr. Prasad handed over a memorandum.
“The chair of the Speaker has not only failed to uphold the highest constitutional value, but has shown contempt for the Anti-defection Act, 1985. The Speaker, without verifying and speaking to the members and without caring for the provision of two-third [MLAs], allotted the members an entity of a separate group,” it said.
Mr. Prasad accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of “murdering democracy” and conspiring to split the RJD to save his government.
In Delhi, Mr. Kumar ignored questions on the RJD chief’s allegations.
