Relenting on the Opposition's demand, the Gujarat government on Wednesday agreed to a judicial probe into the Kutch sex racket and gang rape case in which a few local BJP leaders are allegedly involved.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani made the announcement in the Assembly.
"The government is ready for a judicial probe in the matter. We are committed to ensure that all guilty will be punished and no one will be spared," Mr. Rupani said.
The government's announcement came after the opposition Congress aggressively pushed their demand, forcing frequent adjournments of the Assembly proceedings on Monday and Tuesday.
Even ahead of the presentation of annual budget on Tuesday, the House was adjourned as the Congress members demanded probe during the question hour.
Earlier, a State Congress delegation had called on Gujarat Governor O.P. Kohli seeking his intervention on the matter.
