Karbi Anglong militant killed

The self styled Chairman of United People’s Liberation Front (UPLF), a lesser known militant outfit of Karbi Anglong —Dhanjoy alias Kala Gunda was killed an encounter with the security forces at Born Longfor Reserve Forest, about 22 km of Diphu, the headquarter town of the hill district on Monday.

Defence spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Sombit Ghosh said that based on intelligence report, a joint team of Army and Assam Police led by Eastern Command Counter Intelligence Unit launched an operation in the reserved forest where the self styled UPLF chairman had gone for extortion.

The militant leader was killed in an encounter which ensued around 10.45 am. A pistol was recovered from him, he added.
