Kannauj bypoll on June 24

The by-election to the Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh will be held on June 24, the Election Commission announced on Tuesday. The counting of votes will be taken up on June 27.

The election has been caused by the resignation of Samajwadi Party's Uttar Pradesh president Akhilesh Yadav after he became Chief Minister of the State and was elected to its legislative council.

The poll notification will be issued on May 30 and June 6 is the last date for filing nomination. The model code of conduct has come into effect immediately.
