The Juvenile Justice Board, Kamrup, on Thursday held guilty the lone juvenile accused among 16 involved in the G.S. Road molestation case in which a gang of criminals molested a young girl in full public view on the night of July 9, 2012 when she came out of bar along the busy road and was about to return home.
The principal magistrate of the J.J. Board of Kamrup district Rashmita Das held the juvenile guilty under Sections 143, 341, 323 and 354 of the Indian Penal Code and sent him for a one-year term to the special home.
Earlier in December 2012, the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup, convicted 11 of the 16 accused and acquitted four others, including a television journalist, on the benefit of doubt.
The incident sparked off a nationwide protest.
Gang-rape victim commits suicideIn another incident, a gang-rape victim hailing from Boko in Kamrup district committed suicide on Tuesday. Family members informed police that she set herself ablaze. She was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to burn injuries. The victim was allegedly gang-raped on August 17 at Paglahat in lower Assam’s Dhubri district by three persons one of whom was her lover, alleged the family members. Police arrested two of the accused.
