Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra visited Chandanwari and Pahalgam here to review the arrangements being made for the annual Amarnath yatra, scheduled to begin on June 29.

Mr. Vohra, who is also the Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, visited Chandanwari and Pahalgam along the traditional route of the annual yatra and reviewed the progress of various ongoing works yesterday.

At Chandanwari, he discussed the arrangements being made for the pilgrims with all concerned officers, an official spokesman said.

He said the Governor was told that the Pahalgam-Chandanwari Road was being upgraded and a substantial portion of this stretch would be improved well ahead of the commencement of the Yatra.

The Governor emphasised the need for expediting the project to ease vehicular traffic along this road during the yatra.

Mr. Vohra also inspected ongoing works in Nunwan Base Camp, including those related to water and power supplies, sanitation measures, repair of lanes, drains and creation of other requisite facilities for the yatris.

He directed the concerned agencies to ensure the commissioning of all the required facilities in a time-bound manner and called for effective treatment of solid and liquid wastes before disposal.
