J&K Deputy CM suspends ten civic officials for negligence

Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand on Saturday placed under suspension ten officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) for allegedly allowing illegal constructions in the city.

Six officers of SMC, including Commissioner (works), and four officers of LAWDA were placed under suspension for alleged negligence in discharging their duties, Mr. Tara Chand said after making surprise inspection of some areas here.

Mr. Chand, who holds housing and urban development portfolio, ordered to stop illegal constructions forthwith, adding that violation of land use would not be tolerated at any cost.

He also asked for dividing Srinagar into four zones to ensure enforcement of anti-encroachment laws and instructed the concerned higher authorities to launch a vigorous anti-encroachment drive in the city.

Meanwhile, SSP Srinagar, Javid Reyaz Bedar, assured that adequate police force will be made available to SMC and LAWDA to launch demolition drive against encroachments.

Commissioner-Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Naseema Langer, Vice Chairman LAWDA Irfan Yaseen, Commissioner SMC, Khawaja Farooq Renzu were accompanying the Deputy Chief Minister during the inspection.
