At least 12 Army jawans were injured, seven of them critically, in an “accidental” explosion at an Army camp in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.

An Army official said that as many as 12 jawans have been injured in the explosion at Core Battle School (CBS) at Khrew (in Awantipora area of Pulwama). Out of the 12, seven jawans were critically injured and airlifted to 92 Base Hospital at Badamibagh Cantonment here for specialised treatment.

The rest of the injured have been given first-aid and are stable, he said. The officer said it was not immediately known as to how the explosion happened. “It could be accidental. However, only an inquiry will establish the facts and nothing can be said at this time,”
