Jawan killed in accidental fire along LoC

An army jawan posted along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir was killed in an accidental discharge from his service weapon.

This is second such death of an army jawan in less than 24 hours in the district.

The jawan deputed on a forward post along the LoC in Mendhar sector of Poonch district received bullet wounds due to accidental fire and later died on Tuesday, a senior Army officer said He has been identified as Ravinder Singh.

On Monday night, a jawan deputed on a forward post along the LoC in Mendhar sector of Poonch district received bullet wounds due to accidental fire from his weapon and later died, Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta had said. He was identified as Sepoy Manmohan Budhani (23).

The Defence spokesman had denied reports in a section of the media that the soldier died in Pakistani firing.
