Around 8-10 lakh Jats from Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are expected to reach Delhi in tractor-trolleys on March 20 in support of their demands, including reservation, Akhil Bharatiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti national president Yashpal Malik said.

“The maximum number of Jat protesters are expected to reach Delhi from Haryana from Bahadurgarh and Singhu,” Mr. Malik said. While the support from Rajasthan would be token and most of them would come by bus and train, the Jat leader said they expected a large number of protesters from UP to take part in the march.

Camps to be set up

Around a dozen transit camps will be set up at six points on both sides of the Delhi-Haryana and Delhi-Uttar Pradesh borders to supply food, water and medical aid to the protesters. The Jat leader said the protesters would march on foot towards Sansad Bhawan if they are stopped from going ahead in their tractor-trolleys, adding that the protest would be peaceful.

“In case the government decides to use force against the peaceful protesters, those sitting in dharna in Haryana would shift to roads and block traffic,” Mr. Malik warned, adding that protests were being held at 30 sites in Haryana.

Mr. Malik himself has been going to the dharna sites across the State, exhorting people to turn up in large numbers for the march.

Mobilising support

“I visited the dharna site in Faridabad on Tuesday. On Wednesday, I will visit Hisar and Jind. From March 16 onwards, I will be visiting Uttar Pradesh to garner support for the march,” Mr. Malik said.

He said the Jats supporting the BJP in the Uttar Pradesh elections would not make much impact to the reservation agitation in Haryana.
